Skretting has published its Impact Report 2025, outlining progress across key sustainability areas including ingredients, climate and environment, good citizenship and livelihoods, and animal welfare. The report builds upon broader sustainability reporting released by parent company Nutreco, while focusing specifically on the aquaculture sector.
In addition to reporting progress and challenges across its sustainability targets, the publication includes case studies from Skretting’s regional operations and perspectives from external stakeholders. According to the company, the report is intended to provide a broader overview of activities undertaken during 2025 to support the development of the aquaculture industry and strengthen collaboration throughout the value chain.
Among the highlights reported for 2025, Skretting stated that it achieved a 40 percent reduction in scope 1 and 2 emissions and a five percent reduction in scope 3 emissions compared with a 2018 baseline. The company also reported that its feed supported the production of more than 25 million seafood meals per day.
Additional developments included the launch of nutritional solutions such as NutriPond, Necto, Lorica and Optiline for fish and shrimp production. The report also stated that 88 percent of marine ingredients used by the company were certified or sourced from fishery improvement projects, while 97 percent of global soy purchases met intermediary targets towards deforestation-free sourcing.
Skretting further reported that more than 30 percent of leadership positions within the business are now held by women and that 96% of its packaging is easily recyclable. The company also received the ESG Transparency Award for the second consecutive year in recognition of its reporting activities.
The report outlines several operational and product developments introduced during 2025. These included the introduction of proprietary EDGEOS PhytoComplexes into Skretting diets, developed in partnership between Nutreco Exploration and Skretting. The plant-based extracts were formulated to address fish and shrimp health and performance challenges while aiming to reduce environmental impact through low-input cultivation and processing methods.
Operational changes were also implemented at several manufacturing facilities, including the installation of a new electric boiler system at the company’s Tasmania plant and photovoltaic panels at its Italy facility. In Canada, Skretting worked with local energy providers to identify opportunities to reduce operational environmental impacts.
The company additionally reported updates to its automated footprint analysis tool, SKAILA, enabling footprint assessments at feed and product level, including breakdowns by raw material group, inclusion level, lifecycle stage and emission type.
In China’s Bohai Bay region, Skretting launched an automated feeding pilot project within the large-pond shrimp farming sector through its Skretting 360+ initiative. The project aimed to improve feeder coverage, reduce feed waste and optimise shrimp growth performance through automated feed distribution systems. According to the company, the trial demonstrated improvements in biomass production while maintaining stable water quality.
Maarten Bijl, CEO of Skretting, stated that the report reflects ongoing efforts to improve resilience, transparency and sustainability across aquaculture, while also acknowledging areas where further progress is required.
