Tidal and Maqsur Companies form alliance to scale operations in Chile

June 4, 2025 – Aquaculture technology company Tidal has announced a strategic alliance with Empresas Maqsur, a renowned Chilean provider of aquaculture services and solutions, to scale its operations and establish a strong presence and support network in the Chilean aquaculture market.

TidalX AI, a spin-off of Alphabet (Google’s parent company) and a leader in artificial intelligence and underwater robotics applied to aquaculture, seeks to offer solutions specifically tailored to Chile, with the same high standards of precision and quality developed over years of global experience.

Thanks to its strong local presence, track record and deep industry knowledge, Empresas Maqsur is uniquely positioned to facilitate the rapid and efficient adoption of Tidal’s smart camera technology by producers, providing essential technical support for the introduction of new technologies in a constantly evolving sector.

After years of collaborating with Mowi, the world’s largest aquaculture company, Tidal initially implemented its proprietary hardware and software platform in Norway. Designed for demanding environments, the system allows producers to monitor biomass and growth in real time, estimate harvest results, anticipate animal welfare issues and perform autonomous feeding, all from a single platform. Since then, the company has established collaborative projects with Chilean salmon farmers to understand the local needs, infrastructure and genetics prevalent in the industry, adapting its technology accordingly. Tidal is currently working to launch specific features such as caligus detection, the specific sea lice strain present in Chile.

Today, Empresas Maqsur brings together several companies that offer machinery leasing and sales, high-value fish processing equipment, HDPE technical piping for feed lines, surge and aeration systems and photoperiod systems. “With more than 25 years of experience and leadership in Regions X, XI and XII, we believe we are prepared to expand our offering and incorporate smart camera technology for aquaculture, aligning ourselves with the evolution of the sector,” said Carlos Mackenna, CEO of Empresas Maqsur.

“This is one of those alliances where one plus one equals three,” notes Rajesh Jadhav, CEO of Tidal. “Maqsur’s regional expertise and deep roots in souther Chile makes them the ideal partner to bring our smart technology to the heart of aquaculture. Together, we’re not just responding to demand; we’re helping define the future of the industry.”

Tidal became independent from Alphabet’s innovation lab, known as, X, the moonshot factory, in the summer of 2024, with the backing of international investors. Its mission is to empower aquaculture producers through a comprehensive platform that delivers actionable data to improve efficiency, create value, reduce costs and waste and proactively manage fish welfare and environmental impact. The platform was recognised by Time magazine as one of the best sustainability innovations of 2023.
