The acquisition aims to support shared data standards and operational insights across the aquaculture industry
DNV has acquired AquaCloud, a company specialising in digital tools and data platforms for the aquaculture sector. The agreement includes AquaCloud’s intellectual property and technology, following the company’s recent bankruptcy.
AquaCloud has previously developed systems for fish health monitoring, sea lice coordination, and data standardisation, working with industry and research partners on production data sharing. The acquisition is intended to allow broader use of production data for insight, decision support, and operational efficiency.
According to Thomas Vogth Eriksen, Director of Aquaculture and Ocean Health at DNV, the aquaculture sector faces complex biological and regulatory challenges, and a common foundation for data sharing could support more informed decision-making.
Under DNV ownership, AquaCloud will be managed as part of DNV’s Veracity cloud platform, which handles secure data sharing and verification in other industries. The platform is designed to allow companies to retain control over their own data while participating in broader benchmarking and learning.
Trude Steinbru Heggstad, Head of Digital and Innovation at DNV Aquaculture & Ocean Health, emphasized that broad industry participation is necessary for data insights to be meaningful, noting the importance of secure data sharing and engagement.
DNV stated that the shared data infrastructure could support site optimisation, targeted interventions, and monitoring of fish welfare, while contributing to compliance with regulatory requirements and production efficiency.
