Scottish aquaculture technology company Ace Aquatec has achieved a milestone in Japan, successfully installing its bespoke humane stunning device with Japanese trout producer FRD Japan.
The project incorporates Ace Aquatec’s award-winning A-HSU® stunning technology into FRD Japan’s advanced land-based closed recirculating aquaculture system (RAS). The system will be fully operational in 2027
Key features of the installation include a 16-inch system tailored for steelhead trout, capable of handling 30 tonnes per hour. The system also recycles water back into the RAS facility, emphasizing sustainability alongside innovation.
The device, developed in collaboration with MMC First Process for pumping technology, acts as a physical bridge between FRD Japan’s grow-out and processing operations. Automated handling and monitoring features not only streamline fish transfers but also prioritize fish welfare, enhancing product quality and employee satisfaction.
“Developing a device that balances biosecurity and operational efficiency with the highest welfare standards has been a rewarding challenge, and we’re excited to see our technology making a positive impact in aquaculture in Asia and around the world.” ,” said Tara McGregor-Woodhams, Chief Sales and Marketing Officer at Ace Aquatec.
Ace Aquatec’s A-HSU® is available for all commercial fish species including trout, salmon, tilapia, prawn, bass and bream.
