Alltech Coppens reports progress on sustainability targets in 2024 report

Alltech Coppens has published its 2024 Sustainability Report, outlining measurable progress in reducing environmental impact and promoting responsible fish feed production. The company reported that over half of its raw materials were circular and restorative, and residual waste was reduced by 14% compared to 2023.

The company also received a Platinum rating from sustainability assessor EcoVadis, placing it among the top 1% of rated companies. “Our mission is clear: to produce fish feeds responsibly to support safe food production while conserving our natural resources,” said Ronald Faber, CEO of Alltech Coppens.

The report highlighted carbon footprint reductions, with average emissions from feed production down 9.7% from 2021 levels. Of the total average 1.009 tonnes of CO₂-equivalent emissions per tonne of feed, 92% were attributed to Scope 3 emissions, largely from raw materials. Scope 1 and 2 emissions, linked to energy, water, and waste, made up 8% of the total.

Alltech Coppens also installed 621 solar panels at its Aqua Centre for Research and Development, generating 251.5 kilowatt-peak power. Combined with a renewable energy contract, the facility’s electricity operations became fully green in 2024.

“Sustainability is embedded in every decision we make,” said Guido Crolla, manager of procurement, sustainability, and IT. “Our goal is to reduce our environmental footprint while helping our customers do the same.”

The company supports nine of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, with a focus on Life Below Water, Climate Action, and Quality Education. Faber added that while the company has achieved significant results, it continues to explore new ways to support long-term sustainability in aquaculture.
