Amar Seafood has received official approval for a development permit to build a new land-based aquaculture facility in the Rural Municipality of Victoria, Prince Edward Island. The facility will be the largest of its kind in Eastern Canada, with an annual production capacity of over 600 tonnes.
Construction is scheduled to begin in Spring 2025, with full operations expected to start in early 2026.

The new facility will focus on farming Atlantic Halibut and Spotted Wolffish, two species known for their premium quality and sustainability. The company is committed to minimizing environmental impact through advanced technology and ongoing environmental assessments to ensure its operations align with sustainable aquaculture practices.
Mayor Martin Ruben expressed support for the project, highlighting its potential to meet growing consumer demand for sustainable seafood, create local jobs, and boost the region’s economy.
The facility will also feature an interpretation centre to educate visitors on the aquaculture process and Amar Seafood’s role in sustainable seafood production.
