Aquaculture Stewardship Council has strengthened its Board of Trustees with the appointments of conservation specialist Stefanie Rog and seafood industry leader Steve Philips.
Dr Rog joined the Board on 1 July 2026, following the appointment of Mr Philips on 1 January 2026. The Board provides strategic oversight and governance, supporting ASC’s mission to advance responsible aquaculture through standards, assurance and market incentives.
Dr Rog brings more than 15 years of international conservation experience and holds a PhD in Conservation Biology. Her work has spanned ecosystems including coral reefs in Cambodia, lakes in Ethiopia and mangrove forests in Australia. Based in Saudi Arabia, she currently coordinates restoration, research, rewilding and community engagement across six protected areas.
Mr Philips has more than 20 years’ experience in retail merchandising, sourcing and seafood supply chains. At Wegmans Food Markets, he leads seafood category strategy and developed the company’s Seafood Sourcing Policy, focusing on food safety, environmental and social considerations, and digital traceability. He also serves as Vice-Chair of the Supervisory Board of the Global Dialogue on Seafood Traceability.
Chris Ninnes, CEO of ASC, said the appointments bring complementary expertise in conservation, seafood sourcing and traceability, strengthening the organisation’s ability to deliver practical, science-based solutions for producers, businesses, investors and consumers while supporting positive outcomes for people and nature.
Commenting on her appointment, Ms Rog said she was delighted to join ASC as a trustee, highlighting her international conservation experience and longstanding commitment to coastal ecosystems, particularly mangroves.
ASC said the appointments reflect its commitment to drawing on expertise from conservation, science, seafood supply chains and global markets to help guide the organisation’s strategic direction, strengthen confidence in ASC-certified farmed seafood and drive measurable improvements across global aquaculture.
