Benchmark Genetics has announced the appointment of Dr. Maria Nayfa as the new Business Development Manager for Genetics Services, aiming to enhance support for aquaculture producers. Dr. Nayfa was previously working with Benchmark Genetics as a Senior Geneticist.
With rising demands for faster growth and improved performance in aquaculture, her role will focus on developing tailored solutions to bolster breeding programs.
Dr. Nayfa said, “After an incredible time as Senior Geneticist, I’m excited to take on this next chapter — working with our global partners and clients to deliver tailored solutions, accelerate genetic progress, and strengthen breeding programs across the aquaculture sector.”
In her new role, Dr. Nayfa will collaborate with aquaculture producers to implement customised strategies—from performance tracking to genomic selection—to ensure successful breeding initiatives. Additionally, she will enhance collaboration between the Genetics Services teams in Norway and the Genotyping team in the UK, reinforcing Benchmark’s position as a leader in applied aquaculture genetics.
Dr. Nayfa brings over ten years of international experience in aquaculture genetics and genomics, having worked on breeding programs across more than ten countries and five continents. She holds a PhD from James Cook University, Australia, and an undergraduate degree from Duke University, backed by over 15 scientific publications and reports.
