ScaleAQ, the global aquaculture technology and solutions provider, has announced the appointment of Cristian Sauterel as the new Chief Executive Officer of its Chilean operations, effective February 2026. Sauterel brings extensive industry experience, combining operational leadership in salmon production with strong technical expertise. He spent over a decade at Australis Seafoods, holding senior management positions where he oversaw large-scale farm operations and production optimisation. Earlier in his career, he gained experience at Mowi, one of the world’s largest salmon producers, further grounding him in both operational and strategic aspects of aquaculture.
A trained veterinarian, Sauterel also holds an MBA and a master’s degree in management, reflecting his combination of technical knowledge and business acumen. This unique skill set positions him to bridge operational expertise with technology-driven solutions, a central focus for ScaleAQ as it supports Chile’s salmon industry. His appointment reflects the company’s strategy to strengthen local leadership with professionals who understand both the challenges of farm-level operations and the strategic direction of technology integration.
Sauterel himself has emphasised the importance of aligning innovation, sustainability and operational efficiency, signalling a commitment to helping Chilean producers adopt advanced solutions that enhance fish welfare, optimise production and increase resilience in a market facing regulatory and environmental pressures. Industry observers view this leadership transition as a key move for ScaleAQ in expanding its influence and responsiveness in the Latin American aquaculture sector, leveraging Sauterel’s deep industry knowledge and leadership skills.
