Dr Melba B Reantaso, former FAO Team Leader of the Fisheries and Aquaculture Division, will be the plenary speaker at the World Aquaculture Safari 2025 in Uganda. The conference, scheduled for 25 June, 2025, will bring together over 2,000 participants from around the world to discuss key issues in the aquaculture industry. Dr. Reantaso will deliver a keynote address on improving aquatic biosecurity management in Africa, focusing on risk-based, collaborative, and progressive approaches to safeguarding human health, the environment, and national economies.
Dr. Reantaso brings nearly 30 years of experience in aquatic health management and aquaculture biosecurity. Her career includes roles in research, training, diagnostics, and international development. She has worked on numerous global projects, including leading disease investigation task forces and developing national and regional aquatic organism health strategies in Africa.
The conference, themed “Aquaculture on the Rise,” will feature presentations from industry leaders, experts, and stakeholders. It will also provide networking opportunities and field trips around Lake Victoria and Uganda.
