IAF and University of Plymouth Launch Student Award

International Aquafeed, in collaboration with the University of Plymouth, has launched the IAF Student Excellence Award for students undertaking the MSc Sustainable Aquaculture and Fisheries programme.

The new initiative has been created to provide students with an opportunity to showcase their research, scientific understanding and industry insight through professionally written editorial articles. The winning submission will be published in International Aquafeed magazine.

Publication in IAF will offer the successful student international industry exposure along with a published editorial credit. The winner will also receive a UK£250 prize and an official certificate recognising their achievement.

Roger Gilbert, Proprietor and CEO of IAF said, “We have been collaborating with the University of Plymouth for several years and their students have made valuable contributions to our magazine in many different ways.

“We are proud to present this award, which we hope will help recipients further develop their science communication skills while encouraging deeper discussion and engagement with their work. We are excited to play a part in helping shape the next generation of professionals in aquaculture.”

The judging panel will include Professor Daniel Merrifield and Dr Mark Rawling from the University of Plymouth, alongside Dr Ana Rodiles from Lallemand, who also serves as a member of the IAF editorial board.

As Editorial Board Chairperson for IAF and Programme Leader for the MSc Sustainable Aquaculture and Fisheries at the University of Plymouth, Professor Merrifield said, “This award represents an exciting opportunity to further strengthen the connection between higher education, scientific communication and the global aquaculture industry.

“The University of Plymouth and International Aquafeed have developed a long-standing partnership that has already provided fantastic opportunities for our students through industry engagement, networking and exposure to developments across the international aquaculture sector. Building on this collaboration, I am delighted to support an initiative that not only recognises student excellence but also provides emerging professionals with valuable international exposure and experience in professional publishing.”

The award aims to encourage fresh thinking, science communication and meaningful industry discussion among the next generation of aquaculture professionals.
