IFFO’s 2025 Members’ Meeting concluded on 14 May with a record 267 delegates from 36 countries attending the two-day event. Held in Madrid, the meeting featured 21 speakers discussing global market trends, the role of marine ingredients in animal farming, and their impact on human health.
Speakers emphasised aquaculture’s projected 22% growth by 2050, describing it as critical to maintaining aquatic animal consumption levels. IFFO Director General Petter Martin noted that this expansion is achievable through responsible practices and science-based policies. He cited evidence from well-managed fisheries as a sign of progress.
Presentations also focused on the improved efficiency of raw material use. Despite aquaculture’s expansion, there has been no increase in the volume of wild-caught fish used to produce fishmeal and fish oil. This is due to precision nutrition strategies, with marine ingredients used at key stages of fish growth.
Currently, 40% of marine ingredients come from fish by-products, reflecting the industry’s focus on resource efficiency and waste reduction.
