Kristian Botnen has been appointed as the new CEO of Benchmark Genetics, with effect from November 3, 2025. Botnen, with an impressive background in operations, finance, and leadership in aquaculture, is well-positioned to guide the business through its upcoming phase of innovation and international growth.
Botnen joins Benchmark Genetics, having served as Chief Operating Officer at AKVA Group, a world leader in aquaculture technology solutions, since 2022. He formerly held high leadership positions as CEO and COO of Lingalaks, one of Norway’s largest fish farming firms. He possesses a rare combination of strategic and operational knowledge, having begun his career in banking and finance before transitioning into aquaculture.
Throughout his career, Botnen has garnered recognition for advancing operational excellence, consistently surpassing financial and sustainability targets, and fostering high-performing teams. He graduated from BI Norwegian Business School with a Bachelor of Business Administration and a Master of Management.
