MiXscience has been awarded the EcoVadis Gold Medal, marking a significant milestone in the company’s accelerated implementation of sustainability practices across its operations. MiXscience assessed its CSR performance for the first time in 2023 by gaining ECOVADIS Silver medal for its CSR performance.
EcoVadis is a global benchmark for assessing corporate sustainability performance based on international standards across four key areas: Environment, Social & Human Rights, Ethics and Sustainable Procurement.
The Gold Medal recognises the strength and credibility of the practices implemented. With a score of 82/100, MiXscience now ranks among the top 3 percent of more than 180,000 companies assessed worldwide over the past year.
This recognition underscores MiXscience’s long-standing commitment to innovation in animal nutrition and its contribution to more sustainable livestock production. It also reflects the collective, day-to-day efforts of its teams to strengthen responsible business practices.
MiXscience offers a broad portfolio of innovative solutions for aquafeed manufacturers and aquaculture producers across all stages of production, including hatchery, farming and processing. Its products and services are designed to support customers by optimising feed formulation, processing and preservation; enhancing animal nutrition to improve growth and health; and improving farming practices and environmental conditions.
The company reported notable progress across all four assessment pillars:
Responsible Purchasing (+22 points)
This area showed the greatest improvement, driven by the implementation of group-wide guidelines and structured reporting systems, including monitoring the share of expenditure covered by EcoVadis assessments. Additional measures include the integration of CSR criteria into supplier qualification processes and the adoption of sustainability schemes for palm-based sourcing, aligned with Avril’s Palm & Soy Policy.
Social & Human Rights (+17 points)
The increase reflects updated HR policies, the introduction of initiatives inspired by Great Place To Work surveys to enhance employee well-being, and the rollout of structured reporting covering diversity, pay equity, training and career development. Health and workplace safety remain a core and long-standing focus.
Environment (+14 points)
Progress in this area has been supported by enhanced reporting and the acceleration of Life Cycle Assessment initiatives, aimed at quantifying environmental impacts at farm level and supporting customers in reducing emissions across their value chains. It also highlights efforts to promote animal welfare through research models, including the development of in vitro systems within the company’s Innolab innovation facility.
Ethics (+7 points)
Improvements reflect more comprehensive and transparent reporting, alongside the implementation of training programmes to ensure employees operate in line with Avril’s values and adhere to the Group’s Ethics and Conduct Code.
