The second week of the Credo Online Aquafeed School (OAS) commenced today. The programme is jointly organised by Progressus Agrischools and Perendale Publishers, and sponsored by Agentis Innovations, Tietjen, Andritz, Wenger, PLP Systems and International Milling Directory.
The session began with a warm welcome from Darren Parris, Group President of Perendale Publishers, who introduced the speakers and topics that would be covered in this weeks session.
The first session began with a talk from Joe Kearns, the school moderator and in-house trainer, focused on ‘Plant Design and Aquatic Feeds.’ Joe is the Editor of International Petfood magazine and was previously Vice President of the Aquafeed Division for Wenger. In the first half of the session Joe discussed ‘basic storage’ including:
- receiving raw materials
- unloading systems
- conveyors
- hopper angles
- receiving frozen or chilled products
- piping to conditioned cylinder
This was then followed by a talk by Thomas Runde, CEO and Sales Director of Tietjen Verfahrenstechnik GmbH since 2013. He combines a background from machine manufacturing and environmental technologies with a hands-on and result-driven approach to business and leadership. Thomas discussed ‘optimal raw materials preparation for aquatic feed’ compromising of:

The second half of the session was conducted by Giuseppe Bigliani, the International Account Executive for AGI. He is experienced in production and process improvement, project management with emphasis on animal & aquatic feeds, and food processing plants. In this session Guiseppe gave a talk on ‘Dosing, Batching & Mixing’ and covered:
- Flowability
- Flow patterns
- Flow issues
- Consistency between handling & Storage
- Selection of a dosing system
