PTG FrioNordica has been awarded a contract to deliver heat pump solutions for Nordic Halibut’s new land-based halibut farming facility in Torjulvågen, Norway, continuing a collaboration that dates back to 2010.
The delivery consists of two industrial heat pumps using ammonia as refrigerant, designed for both cooling and heating of process water. The systems are intended to support energy-efficient temperature control at the facility, which forms part of Nordic Halibut’s strategy to increase capacity towards 10,350 tonnes of halibut annually.

The heat pumps are designed for energy-efficient operation with high levels of heat recovery from process water, helping to reduce overall energy consumption. The delivery includes FrioEco HP1500 for cooling, FrioEco HP2000 for heating, titanium wastewater heat exchangers, circulation and process pumps with variable frequency drives, and a PLC-based control system.

The new fully integrated land-based facility in Torjulvågen brings together several production phases at a single location. By utilising heat from process water and optimising energy use, the heat pump solutions contribute to lower operating costs and reduced environmental footprint while supporting local value creation and new jobs in the region.
