Remora Robotics secures €14M funding to enhance fish welfare with AI

Norwegian startup Remora Robotics has raised 164 million NOK (approximately €14 million) in a funding round aimed at expanding its autonomous cleaning robot for the aquaculture industry. This significant investment follows a successful year marked by installations at major global aquaculture companies, reported Evertiq.

The Remora robot combines automated net cleaning with AI-driven inspection, making a crucial advancement for sustainable fish farming. By keeping nets clean, it promotes better gill health for fish, reduces stress, and minimises biological risks linked to traditional cleaning practices, leading to improved fish welfare, increased biosecurity, and lower mortality rates.

The funding round was led by Hatch Blue through its Blue Revolution Fund, alongside strong investments from existing shareholders. As per Evertiq, Georg Baunach, CEO of Hatch Blue, remarked, “Remora Robotics integrates technology, fish welfare, and operational efficiency in a way that directly addresses the needs of salmon farmers while enhancing aquaculture’s sustainability.”

With rising demand, Remora’s production capacity is nearly sold out for the next six months. The company plans to focus on delivering exceptional service and long-term value through its platform.

Thomas Grieg from Grieg Kapital, who is joining Remora’s board, said to Evertiq, “What they’re now delivering to the market confirms both their vision and ability to execute. The technology delivers significant value to Remora’s customers. That’s why we’re increasing our investment.”

CEO Svein Erik Gregersen expressed pride in the team’s achievements, noting the strong market response to their technology.

DnB Carnegie provided financial advice for this transaction, with legal support from the law firm Schjødt.
