Salmofood, a brand of Vitapro, and Cooke Aquaculture have launched RAW, a new organic feed for salmon farming in Chile. The feed, which complies with European Union regulations, is produced at Salmofood’s Castro plant, the first facility in Chile certified for organic salmon feed production.
The partnership aims to provide a locally sourced, high-quality feed solution for Cooke Aquaculture’s organic operations in Chile. RAW is made from organic plant-based ingredients, sustainably sourced marine materials, and natural additives, focusing on sustainability and high productivity.
The Castro plant was certified by Control Union in February 2025, marking a significant milestone in the project. The certification process involved improving storage, handling, and training processes to meet strict organic production standards. Salmofood’s plant is now the first in Chile to meet these standards.
Cooke Aquaculture, which has been certified to produce organic salmon in Chile since 2024, can now source organic feed locally instead of importing it from Scotland. Eduardo Jara, technical manager at Cooke Aquaculture, praised the collaboration, highlighting the joint effort to design, source, and certify the feed. Francisco Valdés, commercial manager at Vitapro Chile, emphasized the partnership’s alignment with the company’s strategy to meet customer needs while prioritising sustainability and high performance.
The organic salmon produced with RAW feed is primarily exported to markets in Poland, France, Germany, and the UAE.
