Skretting opens first LifeStart production line in Asia, launches five new hatchery feeds

Skretting China has opened its first LifeStart production line in Asia, marking a strategic expansion into China’s aquaculture sector. The facility, located in Zhuhai, was launched alongside five new hatchery feed products targeting species including salmon, tilapia, golden pompano, snakehead, and catfish.

The launch highlights Skretting’s intent to strengthen its position in the Chinese market and support long-term growth in the region’s aquaculture industry. China, the largest animal protein market globally, is seen as a key growth area by Skretting and its parent company Nutreco.

“China plays a strategic role for Nutreco due to its scale, species diversity, and rapid market development,” said Bastiaan van Tilburg, CEO of Skretting. “Our goal is to lead the LifeStart segment in China by 2030, especially in salmonids, shrimp, and marine fish.”

LifeStart products are specialised feeds used in the early life stages of fish and shrimp, aimed at improving health and production outcomes. The new product range addresses common challenges in China’s aquaculture, including disease susceptibility and low fry survival rates.

According to Jason Yang, General Manager of Nutreco China, the industry is shifting toward more advanced and sustainable farming, creating opportunities for precise nutrition and performance-driven solutions. Skretting plans to leverage its global expertise to meet these demands.
