Tersan Shipyard has started reconstruction work on a krill fishing vessel for Aker QRILL Company, marking a key development in the vessel’s delayed delivery and a new phase in its operational transformation.
Originally contracted to Westcon Shipyard and intended for Rimfrost AS, the vessel faced setbacks following contractual disputes in 2023. The agreement was later cancelled, and Tersan Shipyard took over the project under a new deal with Aker QRILL Company, previously known as Aker BioMarine Antarctic AS.
The vessel is undergoing significant modifications to meet Aker QRILL’s operational needs. These include a 25 metre extension, new technology installations, and updates focused on regulatory compliance and sustainable harvesting. The extension cutting phase has been completed, following the vessel’s move ashore via floating dock and modular transporters.
Tersan Shipyard General Manager Mehmet Gazioğlu said the project showcases the company’s capacity to handle complex maritime projects. Aker QRILL CEO Webjørn Barstad said the addition of a fourth vessel is vital to the company’s growth and continued leadership in the krill industry.
