Roger Gilbert, Publisher of International Aquafeed magazine talks to the Executive Director for the National Chamber of Aquaculture in Ecuador, Ms Yahira Piedrahita, during this year’s World Aquaculture Society meeting held in Darwin, Australia in the last week of May 2023.
The Chambers of Aquaculture is an association that takes care of many things, such as market access, advocacy for farmers and stakeholders, market regulations, government activities, programmes to improve productivity and competitiveness, safety and quality indicators. Due to its infrastructure, Ecuador has a unique production model as it don’t use SPF (Specific-pathogen-free) animals in its shrimp production and has been working with genetic improvement programmes over many years, she says.
