The Credo Online Aquafeed School (OMS) continued for its third session today. The programme is jointly organised by Progressus Agrischools and Perendale Publishers, and sponsored by Agentis InnovationsTietjenAndritzWengerPLP Systems and International Milling Directory.

Session 2 began with a warm welcome from the session Roger Gilbert, CEO of Perendale Publishers. He introduced the days topics and speakers.

The session began with a presentation from Ed de Souza, Founder and Former President of Wenger on Aquafeed Extrusion, which covered areas such as:

  • Achievements of the Extrusion process
  • Attributes of the Extrusion System
  • Typical Bulk Densities of Extruded Products
  • A Cooking Extrusion System Should Compromise
  • Typical considerations when Choosing an Extrusion System
  • Extrusion System Evaluation
  • System Design & Configurations (Extrusion Hardware)
  • Ingredients – Raw Materials Processing
  • Software – The Fine Process Control
  • Final Products Specifications – The first Area, Typically
  • Four Core Areas To Evaluate/Elevate a Feed Extrusion Project
  • Preconditioned Materials
  • Advancements in Preconditioning Systems Design
  • Extrusion Systems and Their Applications
  • Advanced Extrusion System and Their Applications

The second presentation was given by Rob Strathman, President of Famsun-USA Design and Engineering. He spoke on ‘Fundamentals of Extrusion’, covering various topics including:

  • Why do Products Expand upon exiting an Extruder?
  • How does Extrusion Regulate Expansion?
  • How to maximize Energy Input without Expanding the Product?
  • Extrusion’s Independent Processing Variables
  • The Dependent Processing Variables
  • How Screw Speed Effects Power Output
  • Parameter Analysis
  • Effects of Residence Time on Bulk Density
  • Effects of Total Energy Input on Bulk Density
  • What Drives Starch Gelatinization in Extrusion?

The third presentation was given by Michel Bauer Pereira, Global Application Manager – Aqua & Pet at Andritz. He spoke on ‘Energy Optimization in Aqua feed’, covering various topics including:

  • Grinding – Why?
