The Credo Online Aquafeed School (OMS) concluded with its sixth session today. The programme is jointly organised by Progressus Agrischools and Perendale Publishers, and sponsored by Agentis Innovations, Tietjen, Andritz, Wenger, PLP Systems and International Milling Directory.
Yiannis Christodoulou of Progressive Agrischools and Roger Gilbert of Perendale Publishing introduced the proceedings, with Joe Kearns (editor of international Petfood magazine and a consultant in Extrusion Cooking consulting , animal and aquatic feeds) taking us through the three Modules.
Module One: Lab Analysis
In the first section, Joe took us through all the laboratory testing procedures in great detail, including Moisture Rapid Method and Water Activity Meters, (which help inhibit microorganisms). He then went on to discuss particle Size Analysis, including Laser Particle Analysis, and then concluded by looking at the various Pellet Durability Testers.
Module Two: Computer Control of Aqua Feed Production
Joe took us through the various levels of control systems. Firstly, manual control systems and the raw material area. Joe discussed the benefits of automation and computer controlled systems, including Liquid Coating Systems. He concludes by stating “Whatever you can do by hand you can do on a computer”.
Module Three: Sanitatrion of Aquafeed Plants
On the last section Joe concentrates on the vital area of cleanliness and sanitation, starting off with the importance of isolation walls between different areas of the process (the aim being to protect human and animal health from salmonella and other pathegons). It is also important to identify critical areas and have specific plans to deal with them accordingly. Joe finished with an anecdote “ 50 years ago I was given a Mop, bucket and sponge and told to clean up in contrast to now, where the Food Safety Regulations are very stringent! “
Module Four: Your Certificates and Whats Coming Next
As this is the last of the Summer 2023 Aqua Feed Production School sessions Roger Gilbert wrapped up by thanking all those involved, speakers, sponsors and students. Roger went on to say that a certificate will be awarded to all participants that have completed the 6 sessions and for those that have missed a session all sessions will be made available on demand at www.onlinemillingschool.com
We will be hosting a seventh Credo OMS Off-Line Session at the Victam Latam event in Sao Paulo, Brazil from 10:00-13:00 on October 5, 2023.
The topic with be Trouble Shooting for All including Milling-Aqua-Pet Food Production and will comprise of a discussion panel and a Q&A session from the Autumn Courses and from within the room. During this Off-Line Session we will be awarding Certificates of Attendance to those who have completed one of the 2023 six-week courses and who are in attendance. Training is fundamental to developing a business’ efficiency and ensuring a return on your investment.
