Aker QRILL Company officially launched as an independent entity on Monday, 18 November, following its spin-out from Aker BioMarine. The company, now owned by American Industrial Partners (AIP) and Aker Capital, aims to lead in sustainable krill harvesting and provide marine ingredients for aquaculture, animal feed, and nutraceutical sectors.
The company operates across the entire value chain, from harvesting krill in Antarctica to distribution through its logistics hub in Montevideo. Aker QRILL’s products are sold globally, focusing on sustainability, transparency, and traceability. CEO Webjørn Barstad emphasized that despite the rebranding, the company’s dedication to quality and sustainability remains unchanged. “We’re building upon years of expertise and innovation developed as part of Aker BioMarine,” said Barstad. “Now, as an independent company, we’re excited to chart our own course and deliver superior krill ingredients with the highest quality standards.”
Aker QRILL’s operations are centered on two primary brands, QRILL Aqua and QRILL Pet, both of which are designed to meet the growing global demand for sustainable, marine-based ingredients. The company’s mission centres on sustainably harvesting Antarctic krill and enhancing animal health, growth, and welfare. Aker’s collaboration with AIP supports the company’s expansion. Øyvind Eriksen, President and CEO of Aker ASA, expressed confidence in the partnership, saying, “We are excited to be part of this venture and look forward to supporting Aker QRILL as it grows.” Aker QRILL’s history dates back to 2006 when it was part of Aker BioMarine. Since then, the company has led in developing Eco-harvesting technology and advancing research on krill’s benefits. The new independent company now seeks to continue its work in sustainable marine ingredient production, while pushing innovation forward.
