Underwater technology group General Oceans has acquired RS Aqua, the UK-based ocean technology company in a move announced on Monday, 18 November, 2024. The acquisition strengthens General Oceans’ position in the ocean technology sector and adds RS Aqua’s 40 years of expertise in providing sensors and systems for underwater applications.
RS Aqua, headquartered in Portsmouth, UK, is known for its strong presence in the UK market. The company specialises in ocean technology solutions used in a range of industries, making it a valuable addition to General Oceans. RS Aqua will continue to operate independently within the General Oceans group, allowing for continued growth and innovation in its specialized field.
General Oceans, which reported revenues of GBP 62 million in 2023, has been expanding its portfolio through a series of acquisitions, including Tritech International Ltd in 2022 and Klein Marine Systems in 2023. The company now operates six businesses, employing over 300 people across Europe, the UK, the US, and Australia.
Atle Lohrmann, President of General Oceans, said the acquisition of RS Aqua would help enhance the company’s position in the UK market. He noted that RS Aqua’s expertise would provide valuable opportunities for collaboration within the broader group. “RS Aqua’s role within the group will be key to the future development of General Oceans,” Lohrmann said.
RS Aqua’s Managing Director, Martin Stemp, expressed enthusiasm about the future, stating that joining General Oceans marks an important step in the company’s growth. Both companies share a focus on innovation and advancing ocean technology.
