AlgaEurope 2025, one of the leading annual conferences dedicated to algae biomass research, innovation, and market development, successfully concluded after four days of dynamic scientific exchange and industry collaboration. Held from 9 – 12 December 2025 in Riga, Latvia, the event welcomed 382 delegates from 38 countries and 236 organisations, reflecting sustained global engagement from the algae community.
Jointly organised by the European Algae Biomass Association (EABA) and DLG Benelux, the conference continued to build on its reputation as a pivotal gathering for experts across science, technology, and industry.

An Extensive Program Under Expert Leadership
Under the supervision of Conference Chairman Jean-Paul Cadoret, AlgaEurope 2025 delivered a comprehensive programme structured around 24 plenary sessions, 107 speakers and 116 poster contributions. Keynote speakers – including leading voices such as Helena Abreu, Avigad Vonshak, Poul Erik Jensen, and Leonel Pereira – provided visionary perspectives on the future of algae science and applications. Sessions explored a full spectrum of topics including algae physiology, biorefinery concepts, food and feed innovation, genetic technologies, production systems, and bioremediation. Poster presentations created vibrant spaces for emerging research and facilitated in-depth scientific discussions among delegates.
Connecting Science, Technology, and Industry
AlgaEurope 2025 reinforced its position as a hub linking research with real-world industrial development. Highlights included:
● In-depth presentations, round table and panel discussions, and more.
● The winners of the newly introduced picture contest were announced, highlighting algae’s beauty, diversity, and ecological importance while inspiring curiosity, education, and positive public perception through compelling images.
● A dynamic trade show featuring innovative solutions and technologies from 20 organisations.
● Site visits to síbiotech, providing attendees hands-on insights into innovative algae production technologies and applications.

Looking Ahead: AlgaEurope 2026
The organisers are pleased to announce that the next AlgaEurope conference will be held in Valletta, Malta, from 8 – 11 December 2026. Building on the strong outcomes of the Riga edition, AlgaEurope 2026 will continue to expand opportunities for international collaboration and innovation.
