Aquabyte has introduced a new product, Aquabyte Behaviour, designed to help fish farmers monitor key behavioural metrics of farmed fish. The tool tracks swim speed, swim tilt, and the breathing index, providing farmers with insights into the fish’s health and behaviour patterns.
Aquabyte Behaviour is paired with the company’s WISE Welfare product, offering a comprehensive view of conditions within fish pens. The tool is aimed at reducing biological and technical risks throughout the production process. According to Reinhard Fellner, Director of Customer Success & Insight at Aquabyte, the product helps farmers identify issues early, improving fish welfare and operational efficiency.
The product’s features also include an archive of video clips from the fish pens, allowing farmers to visually assess any concerns flagged by the system. This includes monitoring the fish’s breathing index, which can provide critical information on gill health, overall condition, and potential oxygen level issues.
After a period of testing with select users which began in August 2024, Aquabyte Behaviour will be available to all customers starting next week. The product is part of the company’s effort to explore fish welfare in submerged farming, where both the fish and technical equipment are out of sight, making behaviour monitoring crucial.
