Skretting Japan becomes first ASC certified feed mill in the country

Skretting Japan’s Imari Plant has received certification from the Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC), becoming the first ASC-certified feed mill in Japan. The certification aims to improve transparency and sustainability in Japan’s seafood farming industry.

Located in Saga Prefecture, Kyushu, the Imari Plant produces feed for species including trout, salmon, seabass, and tropical marine finfish. The ASC certification enables Skretting Japan to adopt more standardised due diligence, supplier assessments, and risk management practices across its supply chain.

Gihyeon Park, General Manager at Skretting Japan, called the certification a significant milestone, emphasising the company’s ongoing commitment to sustainability. He noted that the certification is just the beginning of a broader shift towards responsible practices in Japan’s aquaculture sector.

Koji Yamamoto, General Manager Japan at ASC, stressed the importance of the certification, particularly as the 2025 deadline approaches for ASC-certified farms to use ASC-conforming feed.
