Cargill’s EWOS feed facility in Westfield, near Bathgate, has been awarded certification under the Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC) Feed Standard, the company announced this week. This milestone marks the final ASC certification for Cargill’s global salmon feed network, with similar approvals previously granted to its facilities in Norway, Chile, and Canada.
The certification confirms that the plant meets the ASC’s environmental, social, and supply chain criteria for producing feed that supports responsibly managed aquaculture operations.
“Achieving certifications for all our factories supplying EWOS feed plays an important role in our commitment towards a greater environmental and social responsibility in aquaculture,” said Sigurd Tonheim, strategic marketing and technology leader at Cargill. “This is a result of good work and dedication by a cross-functional team.”
From 31 October, 2025, ASC-certified aquaculture farms will be required to use feed from ASC-certified mills. With the Westfield plant now accredited, Cargill is positioned to meet the upcoming demand across all major salmon-producing regions.
The ASC Feed Standard evaluates a broad range of sustainability criteria, including deforestation-free sourcing, labour rights, energy efficiency, and raw material traceability.
