Indonesia’s fisheries and aquaculture industry continues to gain momentum, with Indo Fisheries Expo & Forum reinforcing its position as a key strategic platform for sectoral growth. Organised by PT Napindo Media Ashatama (Napindo), the platform recently expanded its outreach with a strategic visit to Yogyakarta on 11–12 February 2026, highlighting continued momentum in supporting the country’s shrimp sector and broader fisheries development.
The performance of Indonesia’s fisheries has improved encouragingly. Aquaculture was the main driver of the nation’s total production of 18.64 million tonnes by the third quarter of 2025. As of October 2025, prawns accounted for USD 5.07 billion in export value and USD 4.53 billion in trade surplus, making it the nation’s top export item. These numbers demonstrate the strategic significance of prawns in Indonesia’s fisheries sector as well as its potent competitiveness in international markets.
The prawn industry is simultaneously adjusting to changing international requirements, particularly those about traceability and quality assurance. The government acted quickly to restore market confidence and preserve export continuity after export difficulties in 2025. The Nuclear Energy Regulatory Agency (BAPETEN) and the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries’ Quality Assurance Agency collaborated to certify prawn products free of Caesium-137 contamination. To guarantee adherence to the safety regulations of importing nations and enhance confidence in Indonesian seafood, the partnership combines laboratory testing with regional monitoring systems.
These advancements are indicative of more extensive structural changes meant to establish a production and export ecosystem that is more robust and dependable. By bringing stakeholders together to discuss food safety, quality improvement, and sustainable aquaculture methods, Indo Fisheries plays a crucial part in this environment. By taking part in Shrimp Outlook 2026, the platform can further collect industry insights and increase cooperation between companies, associations, and legislators.
In addition to Indo Livestock, Indo Feed, Indo Dairy, Indo Agrotech, and Indo Vet, the 16th Indo Fisheries Expo & Forum will be held at the Nusantara International Convention Exhibition (NICE) PIK 2 in Tangerang from June 16–18, 2026. With over 600 exhibitors from 40 countries and an anticipated 20,000 attendees, the event will also introduce a Fisheries Buyers Program to link Indonesian exporters with buyers across the world, setting up Indonesia’s prawn sector for more global interaction.
