The North Atlantic Seafood Forum (NASF) has opened nominations for its 2027 Seafood Sustainability Award, inviting the aquaculture, feed production and wider seafood sectors to put forward work that has delivered quantifiable progress.
Companies, organisations, projects and individuals can all apply, and self-nominations are welcome. Entries close on 10 January 2027, and the winner will be revealed at the forum in Bergen, Norway, on 9–11 March 2027.
The scheme spans the entire seafood value chain, from fisheries and aquaculture to feed production, seafood processing, technology providers, research institutions and supporting organisations. Entrants must operate wholly or partly within the North Atlantic region.
“The NASF Sustainability Award was established to recognise those who are delivering measurable sustainability results and to highlight the innovations and solutions helping to create a more sustainable seafood industry. The award places the focus on documented achievements and real impact, assessed against clear criteria by an independent jury,” said Gísli Gíslason, Chair of the Jury and Initiator of the Award.

Candidates are encouraged to read the NASF Sustainability Award Criteria & Guidelines first, which set out eligibility requirements and the assessment framework used by the independent jury. The document lists seven areas of assessment, including innovation, scientific credibility, scalability and economic viability.
Algae-based omega-3 producer Veramaris took the inaugural prize in March 2026. The company was honoured for making EPA and DHA omega-3 fatty acids from natural marine microalgae, giving aquaculture an alternative source of essential nutrients that are traditionally obtained from wild-caught fish. Its win shows how research and new technology can ease pressure on marine resources while supporting the continued development of aquaculture.
“The success of the first award demonstrated the value of recognising practical solutions and industry leadership. By showcasing these achievements, the award aims to inspire further innovation and accelerate sustainability progress across the global seafood sector,” Gíslason added.
NASF, which describes itself as the world’s leading seafood business conference, brings together executives, investors, researchers, policymakers and other industry stakeholders to discuss opportunities, challenges and the future of the seafood industry.
