WA3RM and BIO3 have partnered to develop a facility in Averøy, Norway, that will convert agricultural and forestry byproducts into protein for animal feed, particularly for fish feed. The facility, located at NorSea’s NorSea Atlantic site, aims to meet growing demand for sustainable protein sources in the aquaculture industry.
The Norwegian government’s target to make all farmed fish and pet feed sustainable by 2034 highlights the need for new feed ingredients. The facility will demonstrate how this goal can be achieved by producing fungi-based proteins on a large scale.
The production facility, which will be operated by BIO3, is designed by both companies. WA3RM will handle the financing through green bonds and long-term loans. The project is part of WA3RM’s broader strategy to use industrial byproducts for sustainable food production systems. NorSea Group will provide infrastructure for the project, marking the beginning of a collaboration between WA3RM and NorSea to convert industrial byproducts into valuable resources. The construction of the facility’s first phase is planned for the third quarter of 2025.
