Ultra-Rapid Pathogen Testing Reaches Aquaculture

WildTechDNA is bringing its ultra-rapid DNA detection technology to aquaculture with ORYA, a new multi-pathogen screening platform designed to give producers faster and broader information about stock health.

ORYA is designed to screen for multiple relevant pathogens in a single test, with results available in around 15 minutes. The handheld kit requires no laboratory infrastructure or specialist molecular expertise and is designed to be simple and cost-effective to use.

Multiple pathogens. One test. 15 minutes.

ORYA brings speed, convenience and broader pathogen coverage together in a single platform. The technology was recently shortlisted as a finalist in the upcoming Responsible Seafood Innovation Awards.

Rapid and cost-effective multi-pathogen screening could support more frequent surveillance, earlier investigation, stock-movement checks and faster responses when disease is detected nearby.

“The important thing about ORYA is not simply that it is fast,” said Keith Liddiard, co-Founder at WildTechDNA. “It is the combination of speed, breadth and simplicity. If producers can screen several important pathogens on site and in around 15 minutes, they get a much clearer picture of what is happening while there is still time to act.”

WildTechDNA will initially focus ORYA on dedicated salmon and shrimp applications, although the technology can also be quickly adapted for other species and key pathogen targets.

ORYA is built on WildTechDNA’s instrument-free DNA detection platform, using isothermal DNA amplification for practical use outside conventional laboratories.

The team will also attend the Responsible Seafood Summit in Bangkok from 21–24 September for demonstrations.

WildTechDNA develops ultra-rapid, instrument-free DNA detection technology for use beyond the laboratory, with applications across aquaculture, conservation, wildlife enforcement, food systems and other sectors.
