BioMar’s production facility in Costa Rica has officially received ASC Feed Certification, becoming the first feed company in the country to meet the ASC Feed Standard requirements. This milestone marks a significant advancement in responsible feed production for the region’s aquaculture industry.
Located in Cañas, Guanacaste, the facility produces feed for shrimp, tilapia, and various marine species. The certification ensures that local farmers now have access to ASC-compliant feed, supporting the growing demand for sustainable seafood in global markets.
Jorge Vargas, Managing Director of BioMar Costa Rica, highlighted the importance of the certification. “Obtaining ASC Feed Certification shows our dedication to driving positive change in the aquaculture industry,” he said. “With this certification, we will be able to provide access to ASC-compliant feed in the region and support our customers’ efforts to meet the growing demand for sustainable seafood.”
The certification adds to BioMar’s expanding list of ASC-certified sites globally, including recent certifications in Ecuador, Chile, and the United Kingdom. The ASC Feed Standard includes criteria on environmental management, social and labour rights, health and safety, and sustainable sourcing of raw materials.
